Tolworth Tornadoes Lenten Project Ride
Sunday 26th April
Sunday 26th April dawned bright and sunny. Sorry, no, that is a lie – at 4.45am when we met at church it was dark and rainy (the former was just wishful thinking). Fr Tom kindly met us and provided coffee to start us off (sorry Fr Ed if we woke you)! Laurie was in charge of navigating and organising stops, Andrew R was driving the minibus, and our intrepid Tolworth Tornadoes (Phil T, Phil H, Tony and Andrew M) packed their bikes on board and we set off around 5.15am (still dark, and still rainy).
We got to Canterbury in good time, and rode to the presbytery to meet up with Fr Anthony who, having given his best wishes, blessings, and so forth, the 4 cyclists headed off on what was to turn out to be an 85 mile ride.
We met up with them at various vantage points to check all was ok, and to provide refreshments. Lunch was in Aylesford, and we finally got back to church at around 5.20pm.
The following are some of the stats downloaded from Andrew’s on-board computer:
Distance: 84.25 mi
Calories burnt: 3,703
Time to complete route: 10:02:28
Average speed: 12.5 mph
